Prateek was born and brought up in Lucknow. His journalism career started in 1995 when he joined UNICEF through Nehru Yuva Kendra. After this short stint, he worked for print media for two years, including Amar Ujala. His first interaction with television news came in 1998 when he joined Sahara Samay. He was a local reporter of the channel covering Meerut region. He joined Rajat Sharma’s Aaj Ki Baat Show in 2000 and remained with him for four long years. In 2004, he joined Aaj Tak. He was among core team of Aaj Tak which made the channel No.1 in India. He had become the male face of this channel and worked here for around 10 years.

Just before Lok Sabha 2014 election, Prateek again joined Rajat Sharma’ India TV as an Associate Editor. His on-the-spot analysis of the electoral mood of UP turned out to be correct. It was he who almost exactly predicted about the underlying Modi wave in UP where the BJP won 73 (71 + 2) seats out of 80.

Prateek left India TV in December, 2014 and joined News India 18 as a Senior Editor. Here his live reporting program named Bhaiyaji Kahin is leading among all Hindi news programs of evening.
