Kanwal Tanuj, IAS: Profile, Family, Wife and Wiki

Kanwal Tanuj is a 2010 batch IAS officer of Bihar cadre. In a short span of seven years as an IAS officer, he has already made his name fixed among the club of the best officers of India. Wherever, he had worked, he made a positive impact. As the District Magistrate of Aurangabad, Bihar, he brought a sort of social revolution, not just administrative. He is known for going extra mile to erase prevalent injustice and dogmas in the society. There are few officers in the contemporary India who has visited more villages than Kanwal Tanuj.

Kanwal has also been in news because of the idiotic rush for breaking news and creating sensation by the Indian media. Recently, he was accused of calling out poor to ‘sell their wives’ if they are not able to construct toilet. The media ran a very short clip, without going into the detail. If you see his entire speech, then you will find him convincing people to give due respect to women. The endeavor was to use Rs. 12,000 given by the Government to build toilet and not to spend the money for other works.

Kanwal Tanuj was born and brought up in Lucknow in a upper middle class family. His family Artiman Tripathi is currently the CEO and secretary of Janhit Foundation. His brother Abhishek Tripathi is an engineer currently working with Tata Motors.

Kanwal Tanuj has completed study from Lucknow. He later shifted to Delhi for preparing Civil Services Examination. He cracked UPSC in 2008 and got Indian Revenue Services (IRS). He again sat in the examination in 2009 and was able to crack it with good enough rank to get IAS – his childhood dream. He left IRS in August 2010 to join IAS.

Kanwal Tanuj is married and has one son. His wife’s name is Ms. Sonal Tripathi. They had a love marriage with the consent of both families. In fact, Kanwal being a handsome and intelligent guy has always been popular among girls. However, he has never been in any relationship apart from Sonal. He was also in news when he was a probationer. While being the SDO of Kishanganj, he started to get vulgar SMSs from a lady constable named Jyoti Kumari. The constable had also called him many times. Tanwal filed a complaint to the police department and the constable was caught. He didn’t file any FIR, though.
