Rajnish Kumar is the new Chairman
and Managing Director (CMD) of SBI, the largest bank of India. He is going to
lead the bank in a very crucial time for the Indian Economy. The Government is
expecting the SBI to speed up lending to give push to the growth momentum
without compromising with the quality of assets. He will have to follow the
footprint of mercurial Arundhati Bhattacharya.
After a long time, SBI is going to
be away from the clutches of a Bengali. Before Ms. Bhattacharya, it was Mr.
Chaudhury who was at the helm of affairs.
Rajnish has seen stupendous rise in
his profile over the years. He had joined SBI as a Probationary Officer in
1980. By sheer hard work and honest attitude in lending decisions, he kept on
moving up the ladder. He had previously headed the SBI Capital Markets (the
merchant banking arm of SBI) where he garnered all round applause. He had also
worked wonderfully with the overseas arm of the bank in UK and Canada.

SBI till October 7, 2020.
